As Jeffrey and Dorcas are slaves they cannot choose their destiny. When Jeffrey is bought he begs his master to buy Dorcas and he agress to do so as long as the price is resoanable, the next day Dorcas is put to be sold but, unfortunately, her wholefamily has to go with her, therefore Jeffrey's master gives up on buying Dorcas, sothey go their separate ways.
